1. Parties and Scope

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern the relationship between Barış Demirel ("Michord", "we"), operator of the Michord desktop application (the "App" / "Service"), and the person using the App ("User", "you"). By downloading, creating an account, or using the App, you agree to these Terms.

2. Description of the Service

Michord is a desktop application for people learning and teaching music theory. It recognizes chords from MIDI-keyboard or on-screen-keyboard input, and displays grand-staff notation and functional analysis. Note recognition, the chord engine, and piano sound run locally on your device.

3. Account and Security

• To use certain features you must create an account with an email and password.
• You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential and for activity under your account.
• You agree to provide accurate, current information. Persons under 16 should not create an account.
• Notify us if you notice unauthorized use.

4. Free and Paid Plans

• Free plan: available to everyone who creates an account; permanent. On this plan you can only see the note names of the keys you press.
• Paid subscription: features such as grand-staff notation, chord symbols, functional analysis, and chord progressions unlock with a $2.99/month or $14.99/year subscription. Prices may change; changes are announced in advance.
• Payment: payments are processed through our payment provider (see Section 7). Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until cancelled.
• Cancellation: you may cancel anytime; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period. Refunds are subject to applicable consumer law and the payment provider's policies.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the App for unlawful purposes, and not to reverse-engineer it, circumvent copy-protection, reproduce/distribute it without permission, or gain unauthorized access to paid features (including through account sharing).

6. Intellectual Property

Rights in the App, its brand, design, and content belong to Michord or its licensors. You are granted a limited, non-transferable, non-exclusive right to use the App in accordance with these Terms.

7. Third-Party Services

The Service uses third-party providers such as Supabase (authentication and data storage) and a payment provider (e.g. Polar). The App also includes open-source components (e.g. VexFlow for notation; Salamander Grand Piano samples for piano sound, subject to their respective licenses). These providers' own terms and policies apply.

8. Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is". We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the extent permitted by law, Michord is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Michord's total liability is limited to the amount you paid in the 12 months preceding the relevant claim.

Honesty note: as a desktop application, activation of paid features is not 100% copy-proof; it provides reasonable protection.

9. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms. You may close your account at any time. Upon termination, access to paid features ends.

10. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will announce material changes reasonably. Continued use after an update means you accept the new Terms.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Türkiye. Mandatory consumer rights in your country of residence remain reserved.
